Happy 6th Birthday, Little Man!

My baby turned 6 on May 28th. It is such a bittersweet feeling to have your children growing up. Even though Logan still loves to hang (cling) with his mama, he has grown so much this year. He is nearly finished with kindergarten and it is amazing to look through his work over the year and see so much progress. The fact that he reads and writes still amazes me.
You may be growing up, big boy- but you will always be my favorite little guy.

Logan's birthday meal request was raw carrots, chicken on the bone, and mac and cheese. yummy!

On Logan's birthday our niece Anna stayed with us for the weekend. It was fun to have her with us to celebrate Logans day.

She did have a hard time keeping her chair under her. Of course, I had to snap a picture before rescuing her.

Summer is coming to an end.......boohoohoo

I know, you all feel my pain. "Poor Kelly. BooHooHoo. Suck it up, Jahnke- We are cold in MN." But actually I misspoke. School break summer is ending. We still have months left to enjoy the heat. Teehee.
I have to say we have made the most of these 6 weeks off between school years. Want to know what we have been up to? Well, thanks for asking- I shall tell you.

First up, Chesney lost a tooth, this being her fourth. We were on the beach when she lost it, so I consider her lucky it didn't fall in the sand where it would have been gone for all eternity.

Then we had the pleasure of my parents, Bob and Martha, coming for a visit over Christmas.

Duey and I were able to take advantage of the parents mentioned above for babysitting and went into Sydney to watch the fireworks over the harbour bridge. Spectacular.

Logan attended a daylong Rugby Camp and he loved it.

Chesney went to an ice skating lesson to see if she would like it. She did not.

We hung out at Darling Harbour.

We went to the Sydney Aquarium

Chesney lost her fifth tooth. She is such a trooper. She won't pull it out when it is uber loose. But she doesn't freak out when it gets stuck in odd positions from eating either. Good girl, her daddy was very proud because, according to him, he use to freak out at losing teeth as a boy.

We took in a day at the Taronga Zoo

The we went to the Australian Museum, where logan tried on various animal skulls

And Chesney couldn't understand why I was saying "Maybe a dingo ate your baby."

Australia Day was yesterday, So like all good Americans living in Australia, we celebrated.

We hung out with the very large crowd of people

We listened to the singers on the floating stage, including the recent Australian Idol winner (whose name I can't remember) and the bushy haired guy that sings "You make me feel like dancing" (whose name I also can't recall). Then the sail boat show.

What else did we see?

Fireworks, of course. And lots of them. The show was spectacular.

But above all, we just hung out and soaked in the sun.

School starts back for Chesney tomorrow- she will be entering in year 2
Logan starts back on Monday for his last year at preschool. He will be going three full days this year. Hmmmm, what will I do with all my free time.

Father's Day Fun

This past Sunday Australians everywhere celebrated Dad. Including us. We went on a picnic to Clive Park and climbed around on the rocky beach of Middle Harbour. Logan gave Daddy his usual present- some kind of toy for him to play with and Chesney gave Dad some funky cups with swirly straws in them. It was a beautiful sunny perfect day.

"Mom, I have little boobies. You have BIG boobies, and I have little ones." thanks for noticing, Logie

Chesney- "Girls are great and boys are stinky"
Logan- "Yup that's right, Ches. I am stinky- I toot a lot"
Oh, Logan that is soooo true

He Shoots, He Scores

Logan started soccer a few weeks ago and is having a great time. It is soccer for ages 3-5 and they work on skills and play little games at the end for 5-10 minutes each week. It has been a great way to introduce him to the game without it being too full on competitive.

Look at the air he's sporting here
Concentrating hard to make the goal.

Well, Sick

Well

My Little Egghead

A friend has asked us to check on her chickens while they are away next week. We went over to her home today to find out what we need to do and Logan found an egg in the yard. He was very excited and decided it was his new friend. When we got home he needed to immediately make a face on the egg and was playing with it. Luckily it did not break and is now safely in the fridge for him to eat his friend in the morning for breakfast.

Its time to Disco and YMCA

Both Chesney and Logan's schools had Disco dances recently. The kids had a great time dancing the night away to the wee hours of 7pm. fun fun fun

Here is Logan at his dance with his friend, Mitchell. They did the limbo, YMCA, and macarina
Chesney's dance was a winter theme. Chesne went as a snow flake but didn't want to be toooo"girly" while and blue clothing did the trick with a little glitter in her hair. She is here with her best friend, Cooper. He is obsessed with tornados right now and went as a winter tornado, of course.

Joke of the day

Knock, Knock
Who's there
Knock, Knock
Who's there
Knock, Knock
Who's there
Fine I'll just ring the door bell.

As made up and told by Chesney Adeline Jahnke
Chesney loves to make up jokes- I have to say this one is much better then most.

I made fudge- I enjoy eating fudge but have a dickens of a time finding a recipe I really like. Obviously the kids found this one enjoyable to eat.

"Mom, can I have a cup of tea?" sweet words from my sweet boy. He does enjoy having a cuppa with his mum. His being decaf, of course.

Livin' the good life at 4

Logan turned 4 years old on May 28th and boy does he know how to celebrate. By the end of the party the boys were dancing on the furniture, see below.

Logans party was at the Wildflower Gardens. They do a wonderful nature program for the kids, they show the boys different reptiles and insects and teach them about the critters. Then they go on a nature walk and do a craft with the kids. all for the low, low price of $%&*@$ a head. and well worth it.

I have to say, Logans friends are soooo well behaved. They all played well together and there were no tantrums or whining from anyone. The party seems effortless.

Logan loves going to his preschool two days a week and has developed a great friendship with one boy in his class, Adam- They seem to be joined at the hip while at school. It is amazing to see Logan growing up and learning new things, but I do get a little ache sometimes to think of how much he has grown up.
Little lesson to learn- enjoy your children every step of the way and don't rush them in to the next phase- you can never go back.
